Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation Long IslandBreast enlargement, also referred to as augmentation mammaplasty, is designed to increase the size of small or underdeveloped breasts, and can also restore and enhance breast volume if it has decreased as a result of having children. The goal is a fuller, somewhat firmer, and shapelier breast. While the FDA has currently approved only saline-filled implants for most augmentation mammaplasty patients, they are currently considering the re-release of silicone-filled implants for general use as well. Until then, Dr. Gold remains approved under the ongoing FDA-supervised silicone implant study as a participating physician authorized to use silicone breast implants manufactured by both McGhan and Mentor (Inamed) in selected cases.

Dr. Alan Gold offers three alternative incisions for placement of the implants; just above the crease beneath the breast, along the lower margin of the areola, and through the armpit. Through any of these incisions, a pocket can be created either behind the breast tissue or behind the muscle of the chest, to receive the implant. The incision selection and level of implant placement, as well as the selection of the size of the implant, is determined by the wishes of the patient within the constraints posed by their individual anatomy.
